Il condizionale passato in inglese(perfect conditional) si forma per tutte le persone con would + have +participio passato. Esso ha tre forme:
affermativa: I, you, he\she\it, we, you, they would (‘d) have gone
negativa: I, you, he\she\it, we, you, they would not (wouldn’t) have gone
interrogativa: Would I, you, he\she\it, we, you, they have gone?
Risposte brevi: Yes, I, you, he\she\it, we, you, they would… No, I, you, he\she\it, we, you, they wouldn’t
Il condizionale passato si usa per esprimere azioni, desideri, possibilità che non si sono realizzati nel passato.
I would have liked to have dinner with you.\ Mi sarebbe piaciuto cenare con te.
I would have colled you but I didn’t have time.\ Ti avrei chiamato ma non ho avuto tempo.
Il condizionale passato progressivo (perfect conditional continuous) si costruisce con would + have been + verbo in -ing.
Si usa in alcune forme del periodo ipotetico di terzo tipo per descrivere un’azione che sarebbe stata in corso di svolgimento nel passato se si fosse verificata una certa condizione.
If you hadn’t called, I would have been working all day yesterday.\Se non avessi telefonato, ieri avrei lavorato tutto il giorno.
