The girl had gone to bed when her mother arrived.\La ragazza era andata a letto quando sua madre arrivò.

Forma affermativa: I\You\He\She\It\We\You\They had arrived.

Forma negativa: I\You\He\She\It\We\You\They hadn’t arrived

Foema interrogativa: Had I\You\He\She\It\We\You\They arrived?

Spesso è accompagnata dalle espressioni di tempo for, since, how long, before, until ecc.

Forma affermativa: I\You\He\She\It\We\You\They had been eating.

Forma negativa: I\You\He\She\It\We\You\They hadn’t been eating.

Foema interrogativa: Had I\You\He\She\It\We\You\They been eating?

I had been attending his lessons for two years when he stopped teaching.\Frequentavo le sue lezioni da un anno quando smise di insegnare.

I had cooking all day when he arrived.\ Avevo cucinato tutto il giorno quando arrivò.

I had cooked a delicious meal when he arrived.\ Avevo cucinato un pasto delizioso quando arrivò.
